3D Laser Scanning for Marine Scrubber Installation (Exhaust Gas Cleaning System)

The 2020 global sulphur limit by IMO

From the 1st of January 2020, the limit for sulphur in fuel oil used on board ships will be reduced to 0.50% m/m (up until 31 December 2019, the limit will be 3.50% m/m). In October 2016, IMO’s Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC 70) decided that the 0.50% limit shall apply from 1 January 2020 Sulphur oxides (SOx) and Particulate Matter (PM) – Regulation 14.

Exhaust Gas Cleaning System Scrubbing retrofits with single engines or multistreaming operations. Scrubbers are used to wash sulphur oxides and other harmful compounds out from the exhaust gases.
XYZ is one of the first Laser Scanning companies that has already accomplished scanning for Scrubber installation feasibility studies on two Bulk Carrier M/Vs.

XYZ scans and captures quality accurate measurements on board.
After three days of scanning on board our specialized engineers capture all the areas of the Engine Room of the vessel. Every small detail, from the lowest floor of the engine room to the very top of the chimney are scanned. All deck areas are also scanned, to finally deliver a point cloud with millimeter accuracy.
While not disrupting normal vessel operations, we scan every possible area where the Scrubber System may be installed.

Data from the field measurements combined with thousands of high resolution photographs is then processed by our experts.

We then deliver accurate as built 3D models. The Naval company can conduct its feasibility study for the new installation with an extremely detailed model avoiding clashes or conflicts with existing piping or other equipment.
